Happy November!

Well, it’s November. You know what that means. No shaving!!! Just kidding. I tried that once in high school during basketball and it got real awkward, real gross, real fast. No, it’s November, and that means it’s National Novel Writing Month, or NaNoWriMo. The goal is to write at least 50,000 words of that novel you’ve been wanting to write, but never actually got around to it. I’ve been wanting to do this for a few years now, and even signed up last year, but didn’t write anything. Now I’m fully determined to try it out. I’ve been meaning to start writing again, and this blog was a big help, but I’ve been slacking in that regard (although I have a lot of exciting posts planned! I just need to do some more thinking and research for most of them…).

I’ve written a novel before, back in high school. But believe me, it is far from being publishable, but I just can’t throw away my baby. I’ve decided it will become my first extensive rewriting exercise. I was thinking of rewriting it for NaNoWriMo, but there’s also a fantasy story I’ve been itching to write for a good six years now, and I think that may be more enjoyable to delve into each day. I have some parts written and a lot more planned out, but it’s the world building that’s been slowing me down. And the fear to just… write. So that’s my plan. I’m going to take November to write as much as I can of this new story and use the NaNoWriMo site to help with the encouragement. And it’s actually pretty neat. After day one, I already feel pretty good about my progress. Let’s hope I can keep it up.

It’s looking pretty promising thus far, me thinks. Feeling inspired? Think you can handle writing a novel in a month, or at least the rough makings of one? It’s not too late to sign up and challenge yourself. Check it out!

I’ll update at the end of the month about how far I got, or earlier if I actually reach 50,000 words before the deadline.

So, whether you’re refusing to shave or trying to write a novel, or just enjoying the last weeks of fall, this month should be exciting!¬†Happy November, everyone!
